This year saw the 65th annual dinner for BJC and was held at the beautiful Marriot Royal, Bristol. Almost 200 members and guests enjoyed a sparking reception, delicious food and fantastic dancing at a very memorable event.

BJC March Monthly Meeting was held in the old court rooms at the Guild Hall, Small Street. It offered BJC members the last chance to the see the old courts before they are converted into a hotel.
The meeting was a panel discussion which focused on Bristol and some of the priorities facing the city, looking at multi-cultural integration, skills, resident parking and how our members can play more of a role in the city. The three panellists were:
James Durie – Executive Director at Business West and Former President of BJC.
John Savage – An inspiring speaker and Bristol champion well known to BJC. He has a broad range of professional interests, including being a founder member of the Bristol Initiative, an organisation set up following the Toxteth riots in 1981 to get business more involved the community to reduce the chance of Toxteth happening in Bristol. He has published the cities strategic vision, called Bristol 2050 and in 2012, ran for the Avon and Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner.
Zaheer Shabir – On the government’s anti-terrorism taskforce, tasked with championing trust and integration of minority groups in Bristol.
Over 40 BJC members attended the BJC Investment Seminar on Thursday 30th January at The Bristol Hotel. The evening offered an introduction to the world of investments, personal wealth and pensions.
Speakers included; Mark Wilson- Editor of IFA Magazine; BJC Member Charles Chami- Investment Manger at Glamis IFA and BJC Member Clare Davies- Specialist Adviser at Coutts. The speakers gave informative presentations followed by a Q&A session. Members then had the opportunity to network and talk with the various investment professionals who form part of the BJC Membership.

Taking place at The Bristol Marriott Royal on Saturday 22nd March this Black Tie extravaganza is the highlight of the BJC year kicking off with a sparkling reception, followed by a sumptuous three course meal accompanied by wine, plus cheese and port, speeches to celebrate the past year and great entertainment.

Over 70 BJC Members attended a delicious 3 course Christmas Dinner at Hotel Du Vin at the start of December. Thanks to Mark Langmead for organising such a memorable and festive evening for the BJC to celebrate the start of the festive season.
On Tuesday 19th November the first President’s Dinner was held at Steak of the Art Harbourside Restaurant with Paul Wilcox (Chief Executive of the West of England LEP) and Zoe Sear (from The Mayor’s office). 20 BJC Members had the opportunity to talk with Paul and Zoe about the role of business and the council in delivering economic growth and jobs in Bristol and the Bristol area.
Held at Armada House BJC members attended the November monthly meeting and listened to a presentation from Chris Lyons, the Partnership Manager for the Superfast Business Programme for Business West.

On Friday 18th October over 50 BJC members enjoyed a very special BJC Members Dinner at The Mansion House, with The Rt. Hon Lord Mayor of Bristol, Councillor Faruk Choudhury and inspirational speech from Nick Hounsfield of The Wave project. With thanks to Fosters Event catering and Averys Wines.
With over 50 members and prospective members in attendance it was a great night and we had some truly excellent speakers. Stephanie Lacey, centre Director at Cabot Circus and John Hirst, Chief Executive of Destination Bristol spoke about the celebration of 5 years of Cabot Circus and what it means for Bristol.
