Our History

Bristol is a city steeped in history and the BJC are proud to have played an important role in contributing to this history by furthering Bristol’s trade, commerce and industry, since 1948. Due to the dynamic nature of the BJC and its members, we have succeeded in expanding trade and publicity within the city by being involved with numerous projects including:

  • The Bristol International Balloon Fiesta - Formed by the BJC in 1978 and now one of the UK’s top five outdoor events.
  • Publishing Books - The Bristol Heritage Walk; Secret Underground Bristol; and shortly a celebration of Bristol and Ballooning
  • Bristol’s Heritage Walk - Formed by the BJC in 1984 in conjunction with the Bristol Tourist Information Centre, numbered plaques enable visitors to walk around some of the most exciting parts of the city centre.
  • Brunel 200 - The BJC were fully involved in a number of exhibitions, projects and celebrations taking place during 2006 to mark the 200th anniversary of the birth of Isambard Kingdom Brunel.
  • Work it Out - A hands-on careers fair, developed by the BJC, for 600 school pupils aged sixteen.
